Hello travelers,
The Yoga Capital of the World, Rishikesh, will soon become the third place in India to feature a glass bridge. As you know, Rishio ki Nagri is a popular destination for travelers, home to iconic bridges such as Lakshman Jhula, Ram Jhula, and Janki Jhula in Tapovan. The upcoming Bajrang Setu will be the fourth.
Story of Rishikesh’s Bridges

While exploring Rishikesh, I found out all the details of making these bridges. Let’s begin with the story of making Ram, Janki, Laxman, and Bajrang Setu in Rishikesh. Lakshman Jhula is one of the oldest bridges in Rishikesh, constructed in 1929. According to mythology, Lord Ram’s younger brother, Lakshman, once crossed the Ganga River using a jute rope, inspiring the bridge’s construction.
Ram, Janki, Laxman, and Bajrang Setu in Rishikesh

Ram Jhula was constructed in 1989 to easily cross the Ganga River to reach the ashrams of Rishikesh. It is 2 kilometers away from Laxman Jhula. The third one is Janki Jhula, the newest bridge in Rishikesh, located near the Beatles Ashram. It doesn’t feel like a swing because it is a bridge, not swinging in the air.
Laxman Jhula is Shut Down
As of now, Lakshman Jhula is closed due to safety concerns. The government has tried to reconstruct it plenty of times but couldn’t do anything. After closing this bridge, people may face difficulties crossing the Ganga River, so there are considerations of constructing a new bridge next to Laxman Jhula.
Detail of Bajrang Setu in Rishikesh
Bajrang Setu in Rishikesh was initially scheduled for completion in December 2024, but the pandemic delayed the project. However, the wait is now over. The bridge is set to open three months from now. Yet the date of the inauguration is not disclosed. In June, you can explore the 132-meter-long and eight-meter-wide Bajrang Bridge, which is going to be the most beautiful bridge among other bridges in Rishikesh.

While exploring Rishikesh, you can witness Bajrang Setu, a glass bridge that is a worthwhile experience. A giant statue of Bajrang Bali, also known as Hanuman Ji, will be constructed on the bridge as a tribute to Bajrang Setu. However, the Laxman Jhula will remain closed due to its bad condition.
Conclusion
In July, you can make a short or long trip to Rishikesh to experience the newest glass bridge. Bajrang Setu is more beautiful than other bridges, I might admit it. So, book hotels in Rishikesh and transport in advance to secure your visit before reservations fill up.
